English beautiful words on signboard

After PMR examination, the candidates have to undergo a few activities organized by the counseling unit. One of the activities, colorful English signboard was being taken cared by English Language Panel. The students were to write ponder words on wooden signboard which had been painted into blue, orange, green and light blue. The activity was first rejected by the pretty number of students as they thought it was some kind of another burdensome works. But then when a few students had tried it and they sign their name on the board as to mark their contribution to the school, several more students alighted to ask for blank signboard.

They were so happy to decorate and to write the words using UNI-Paint marker pen which could paint with beautiful colour.. The words or phrases chosen were - the Phrasal Verbs and its meaning, the words of ponder, the Hadith of the Prophet SAW and the wise sayings.

The planning stage- the students in groups to design and to decide what to write.

Writing and decorating are fun...

Here are they... erected nicely by the fish pond

Teacher Shafinar couldn't miss to appreciate one of the signboards.

They are everywhere in the school and it bears the person who has contributed

SPM result 2008- 2012 based on CGPA

As for the implication of the PLC to the school academic achievement, we have to see from the beginning of the criteria of the school being chosen to implement the LS which was based on the SPM result. The Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA), of 2010 English Language SPM result of the school is 7.62, and the aim of the program is to improve CGPA by 0.05 to at least 7.57. After LS being implemented, the school manages to get 7.48 or the increase of 0.14. And as the PLC continued in 2012, the CGPA improves more to 7.36 or an increase of 0.12.

The LS may be the factor contributed to the improvement of the CGPA. The LS was carried out with the low performance students of form 5 in year 2011 and 2012. The skills of the new and the more experience teachers blended together to improve the teaching of SPM English Language. The implementation of the LS in year 2013 has a slight change, where the class chosen is form 1 and the move has given the idea to the lower form teachers on how to diversify in the teaching of PBS students.

Y = CGPA X = YEAR X

LEGEND:-
1 = 2008 7.67
2 = 2009 7.51
3 = 2010 7.62
 4 = 2011 7.48
 5 = 2012 7.36

Thanks Zaidi and hope for a better future a head

Zaidi bin Zakaria had been teaching in this school for almost 13 years. He has had a great influence among the students and teachers in the school. As to calculate those who has been taught by him since, there are almost 200 students each year multiple by 13 years, it makes approximately 2600 students of his. He has a lot of merits in teaching the language and he had been a good friend to others. We are going to miss him, and his special task, which is the script writer and the MC trainer for the students at any formal ceremony. He also had lost his beloved foster Mum during his service in this school and a lot of things happen to his personal life while he taught here.

The English language panel members hope for a better future and hope that he won forget us here.

The History of Lesson Study in SMK Raja Puan Muda Tg Fauziah

Lesson Study (LS) has been introduced in SMK Raja Puan Muda Tg Fauziah since 2011 under one of NKRA programs. The school is one of the five schools selected in Perlis to carry out the program as the school categorized under band 6 based on the SPM result of 2010. The subject chosen is English Language and the program is to be carried out by English Language Panel. In making it into the practice, the school set up the team of PLC which led by MohdAsri bin Mat Isa and 6 other teachers.
The practice has been done with Pn Mona Liana binti Markon being the first teacher to teach. The procedure was, the teacher to set up the learning goals and design the lesson plan, then she gave a briefing on how the lesson to be carried out in classroom to the whole team in the first meeting attended by all but without the ‘knowledgeable others (PnRahimahbt Ibrahim)’. In the meeting, all members gave ideas and the teacher amended the lesson plan accordingly. The lesson was then being implemented in class room the week after, without any more meeting. The teaching and observation for this time was done in the present of the ‘knowledgeable others’, and the meeting was carried out right after the lesson. The leader of the team reported to the BPG portal of the 1stcycle process.
The process of asking the teacher to set up the goals and to design the lesson plan in advance was, to suit to the time constrain among the team members and to suit to the teachers’ scheme of work. The rational of not having ‘knowledgeable others’ in the design of the lesson plan was because of the mobility of the person to come to our school as she attaches at SMK Tengku Suleiman which is 30 km away from the subject school.

After the first cycle, the lesson study has become the phenomena in the school, where the principal kept on mentioning it in the teachers’ meeting and how he hoped the readiness of the teachers to learn from the others and to open their classroom to the others to learn in future. The process of implementing the LS was then carried out by other teachers in the school by following that method. The leader of the team was also carried out the process by using the same procedure carried out by Pn Mona Liana earlier. The moved by the team leader to teach a cycle of LS has also encouraged the other junior teachers to open up their classroom for the other teachers.

Casual talks with a Pro-ELT trainer

31st July 2013, we were proud to host Mr Wilson at the Hostel Dining Hall. The program is named as 'Inculcating English Language practice and culture' and it's aimed to let the students used to listen to and focus to the native speaker. The participants are from form 5 and form 6 students.

Mr Wilson is from USA but he speaks good Queen English which is a useful exposure to our students. The fisrt session, he shared his experience of traveling and living for 9 years in Indonesia. He motivated the students with the words "I can". The second session, he gave the chance to the students to ask any questions, but the students were quite shy at first before they started to feel comfortable with him towards the end of the session. Mr Wilson seemed to fulfill the hope of the teachers and students even though he was not so well at that moment. He ended up the session a bit early and the students were so happy and gave a loud applause to him.

Here are the pictures of the program and I also would like to share a comments from the students who had attended the session.

Introducing himself and his home country.

he demonstrated a drawing of a face with help from the students who demanded him to do so
The English Language teachers, Miss Shafinar, Mdm Mona Liana, En Mohd Naim were also among the audiences

What a precious moment to be experienced .. Thanks to all English teachers for inviting Sir Wilson, a foreign lecturer for an English motivation slot last Wednesday .. He was such a great motivator indeed .. It was not just about English lesson .. But it was also about how to achieve success through mindset .. With just two words, "I CAN" nothing is imposible in REAL LIFE eventhough you are having a hard circumtance.. I got the words in my HEAD nowfeeling lucky with Mohd Asri.
